Most people probably don’t realize that you can advertise on YouTube, and it can be a very effective way to generate leads.
The way it works is this:
- You create a video promoting your product or service. It is best if it is short, i.e. 1-2 minutes. You should have a call to action at the end, where you give your phone and web address and tell people to contact you.
- Run ads through the Google Ads interface, to run the video on YouTube as what is called a “pre-roll” video. This means that someone goes to a video on YouTube, but before they see it, they will see your video. After 5 seconds, a skip button will pop up in the lower right, and the person can click to skip your video and go to the one they wanted to see. If they watch your video for more than 30 seconds, you get charged money. It’s usually in the 1-3 cents per view range.
- When you run an ad like this, you can have a call to action button below the video, with “Learn More” or “Sign Up” or some other message on the button. That button can link to any page on your website.
- It is best to send them to a customized landing page that is specifically about what your video is about. Do not send them to your homepage and make them try to figure out how to find the info they want. See my other articles on landing pages and what should be on them. Make the response form on that page have something in the subject line in the email it sends, say something about the source, i.e. YouTube ads.
I have one client who is running these types of ads pretty much continually, rotating through his large collection of videos. And he is getting regular responses. This client has a high-ticket service, and this type of advertising is very viable for him.
