Do you want to get into producing videos for your business, but are not sure where to start? This article describes 7 different types of videos you can make, and is an excerpt from my free ebook, The Business Owner’s Guide to Getting Your Video Produced.
Explainer or Product Videos: Connecting with your audience becomes easy through explainer videos, as they effectively illustrate your company’s offerings and the value they bring. Employing concise, impactful videos, you can engage with potential customers by conveying why your products are the superior choice. These videos cover customer problems, presenting the company’s product or service as the ultimate solution. By leaving viewers eager for more and issuing a clear call to action, they encourage viewers to reach out for further information. The primary objective here is to communicate why someone needs this product or service, propelling them from the contemplation phase into the decision-making process.
In the age of online purchasing, compelling product videos play a major role in converting digital visitors into loyal customers. Their purpose extends beyond merely presenting a product or service – they aim to captivate the audience in a way that goes beyond the capabilities of text or static images. Rather than just showcasing the product’s features, these videos can delve into how the product works, and illustrating the advantages for the customer.
Customer Testimonial Videos evoke powerful emotions as they feature satisfied customers genuinely endorsing a business. These authentic testimonials cover why customers chose a particular product, how they use it, and what they appreciate about the product or the company. The authenticity of the customer’s words, rather than a scripted narrative, is pivotal in establishing a genuine connection with viewers. In essence, these videos elevate online reviews by putting a human face behind the feedback.
Company Culture Videos showcase the people behind the brand, usually interviewing owners or executives. They humanize the company and establish a connection with the audience. Customers seek alignment with a company’s core values, and company stories and culture videos serve as a means to illustrate what drives the people behind the company. The goal is to convey why customers should feel confident in their choice of that company. These videos aim to foster understanding and encourage customers to support a business they believe in.
Live Video Streaming on social media platforms. Live streaming videos offer real-time engagement with customers. These videos can be employed for various purposes, including interviews, announcements, event coverage, office tours, or unveiling the behind-the-scenes operations. Live streaming platforms often include a chat feature for viewers to ask questions or comment, and it’s essential to address these questions promptly to enhance engagement. Notable social media platforms for live streaming include Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Instagram Live, and LinkedIn Live.
Event Recap When a company hosts a conference or event, videos are an excellent medium to promote and share event highlights. Sharing engaging presentations and summarizing key aspects of the event effectively disseminates information to a broader audience.
Educational Videos should be engaging and enjoyable, much like blogs, as their primary purpose is to inform the audience. Topics should align with the company’s brand and remain relevant to the target audience. Together with blogs, these videos position the company as a trusted authority within its industry, enhancing brand trust. Educational videos play a vital role in creating awareness during the buyer’s journey, particularly in the awareness phase when customers may not yet fully grasp their problems. These videos can pique their interest, nudging them further down the sales funnel.
Short Form Social Media Clips: Social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok offer a platform for creative (often humorous), short-form videos. These videos are typically less than a minute in length and aim to be entertaining and engaging. They appear in users’ feeds and can generate substantial engagement. They empower marketers to express their creativity, reveal the company’s personality, and establish connections with the audience. These videos can cover a range of topics, from product demonstrations to storytelling, event promotions, and sharing company updates. Social media clips are a potent tool for bolstering brand recognition and channeling viewers toward your website.
All company videos should have a copyright screen at the end. And in most cases you should include a call to action at the end, where you tell the person to contact you.
These various types of video can be created in a few different formats, including a very simple Powerpoint style slide show video, with narration and music, photos, and stock video clips, but no live action video shot of your business. Then there is, of course, the live action video, which can have various degrees of complexity.
