In my recent article http://realwebmarketing.net/online-email-services-2013/ I reported that all the major online email services require that when you upload a list of contacts to their service, that they all send out a re-opt-in message to your list. Then everyone who responds now will stay on the list, and everyone who does not will be removed from the list.
Someone contacted me and said this was not true for Constant Contact.
So I checked this out and apparently it is not true for Constant Contact. However, they have policies on what types of contacts you are allowed to upload to their system:
“You can only add contacts to your Constant Contact account if they have a previous relationship with you or your current business directly.
“The following types of email addresses are NOT appropriate to add to your $cmpny account:
- “Any purchased list of email addresses from ANY source – no matter what that source claims.
- List Broker or service
- appended list
- “Any shared list of email addresses that have not given your company or business direct permission to email.
- trade show attendee list
- affiliated company contact list
- “Any distribution mailing lists, i.e. email addresses that mail to more than one email address. Distribution lists send to more than one individual and permission has not directly been given by all individuals -past and future. Sending to one of these lists increases the likelihood of spam reports.
- voter registration lists
- public directories
- chamber of commerce
- membership association contacts
- “Any non-specific or role email addresses. There are role addresses that Constant Contact servers will never deliver email to. If the role address you wish to add does not appear on the list of those addresses, you can email to it as you know the recipient and permission is clear.
- “Any collected email addresses obtained by surfing the Internet or “scraping” web pages.
- “Any illegitimate addresses that you do not recognize or look like they may be false.
- “Any contact addresses obtained through social media connections. This includes Facebook Fans or Friends, LinkedIn Connections, or Twitter Followers where the contact has not explicitly requested mailings. Someone who makes a LinkedIn Connection with you has not asked you to send them emails. However, you can invite social media contacts to join your mailing list.
